Aye, this one’s for the dads! At the Baltimore Banner Impact Summit yesterday, Governor Wes Moore announced a new program supporting fathers across Maryland — starting next week.
The state is partnering with the Parent Encouragement Program (PEP) to offer an eight-week virtual program that can serve up to 300 fathers. Dads will meet in small groups once a week, led by trained facilitators who are graduates of the program themselves. The curriculum covers practical parenting strategies, strengthening family connections, supporting children’s mental health, and helping kids succeed in school. The first cohort will prioritize fathers from ENOUGH Initiative communities — neighborhoods investing in community-driven strategies to end childhood poverty.
“Here in Maryland, we see young men and boys not as problems to be solved, but as assets to be cultivated,” Moore said. The program is part of the administration’s broader push to close opportunity gaps for young men and boys and build stronger communities where everyone can thrive.
Fatherhood is the ultimate crew to captain. Fair winds to every dad setting sail on this program!
