Baltimore Vacants Reinvestment Initiative Wins National Award for Program Excellence

Big win for Charm City, mateys! Maryland’s Baltimore Vacants Reinvestment Initiative (BVRI) just won a national award for program excellence in Homeownership: Home Improvement and Rehabilitation from the National Council of State Housing Agencies. Announced Oct 13 at the NCSHA 2026 Annual Conference in Detroit, the award recognizes a program turning vacant properties into homeownership opportunities and neighborhood revitalization across Baltimore. BVRI was established through Governor Moore’s 2024 Reinvest Baltimore executive order, and beat out finalist programs from New Mexico, Illinois, and Michigan. Old properties, new life, stronger neighborhoods — that’s a treasure worth celebrating.
