Ahoy, shutterbugs and history buffs! The Baltimore Museum of Art just dropped anchor on the first-ever museum survey of Baltimore’s photography history. “Flashback: Two Centuries of Baltimore Photography” opened October 4 and runs through February 21, 2027 — more than 200 images tracing the city’s visual story.
The journey starts with Frederick Douglass’ first-known portrait and daguerreotypes of the Inner Harbor from 1853, and sails all the way to Devin Allen’s iconic Time-magazine “Uprising” photo, plus snapshots of everyday Baltimore life: football games, underground arts scenes, and crabs piled on newsprint. The exhibition was curated by Leslie Cozzi and Antoinette Roberts and includes a citywide Open Call showcasing 12 emerging photographers.
Whether ye love fine art or just love this city, this one’s worth a visit, mateys. Sources: The Baltimore Banner: BMA debuts “Flashback” photography exhibition
